Hindus Speaking Out Against .GOD Domain Names

According to this article on News Blaze,  highly respected Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, made a statement in Nevada on March 16th, stating that allowing domains based on religion or denomination would unnecessarily create more conflicts in a world already full of disputes.

Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, is warning ICANN about the hazards of allowing new gTLDs such as .christian, .muslim, .hindu, .buddhist, .jew, etc.

Rajan Zed later quotes Article 2.1 (b) of the ICANN GAC Principles Regarding New gTLDs, which state: “New gTLDs should respect the sensitivities regarding terms with national, cultural, geographic and religious significance.

I believe he is right and according to the terms defined in the article mentioned above, we are safe from seeing any religious domain extensions.

Not to mention the fees and paperwork involved in launching a new gTLD.  I doubt any institution, religious or not, would be willing to put up the money to launch a new gTLD of this nature.

Domainer Essentials: Domain Name List Cleaner

Following up my first “Domainer Essentials” post on Registrant Alert by DomainTools, I thought I would continue to share another simple application that I keep handy in my domainer toolbox.

Here it is… DNCleaner.com, a free web based application by SecondVersion that allows you to filter a sloppy list of text and extract all the domain names found within that text.

This tool is very nice for removing duplicate domains also!

dncleaner-before.gif

dncleaner-after.gif

Tip: If you are pasting in lists of domains from your registrar control panel be sure to look closely at the list afterward as you might have accidentally pasted in some DNS server domains or names like GoDaddy.com that accidentally made their way into the list.

Currently DNCleaner only supports the following TLDs: com, net, org, biz, info, us, co.uk, in, co.in, sc, tv, & cc.

Enjoy and feel free to suggest any other essential tools you use as a domainer in the comments below!

Domainer Essentials: Registrant Alert by DomainTools

I’ve used Registrant Alert by DomainTools for nearly two years and am sorry for not having shared it with you sooner!  It really is an essential tool that automates the otherwise complicated task of digging through WHOIS pages.

domaintools.pngRegistrant Alerts notifies you whenever a change is detected on any of your domain records.

This is normally a paid service, but here’s a little pro tip…

Sign up for a free account at DomainTools and then navigate to the Registrant Alert page, they offer a free registrant alert for one of your own email addresses!

If you use the same email address as the contact for each of your domain registrations, like most others, then the one free alert is all you really need.

Here are some screenshots of what the alerts look like…

registrant-alert-ss.png
(Read why I registered this .tel domain.)

registrant-alert-ss2.png

After you confirm your email address with Registrant Alerts, you will begin receiving these email notices any time you register new domain names, when your domain names expire or domains transfer ownership.

It’s basically a WHOIS watchdog service.  The information is simple, but good to know in a timely manner.

Enjoy and feel free to suggest any other essential tools you use as a domainer in the comments below!

Millions of MySpace Mobile Users May Register .tel Domain Names

MySpace is currently marketing the new .tel domain name extension to their community of over 130 million users as short alternative web addresses to their MySpace Mobile profiles.

myspace-mobile.pngEssentially, a virtual business card connected to the social web.

Over 20 million individual users access MySpace each month through mobile devices alone.

Register .tel Domain Names through MySpace?

MySpace is in partnerships with several ICANN accredited registrars and will be offering .tel domains to its community for $20 per year.

I recommend you register .tel domain names at Moniker for $14.99 per year.

Telnic May Fulfill a Need for the Social Web Generation

tel-domains.jpgTelnic, the originator and registry operator for .tel,  has also introduced a free iPhone application, available from the iPhone app store, which it claims “means that, for the first time ever, anyone can edit and publish information on the Web under their own domain without needing web design skills or software or even a PC.”

tel-iphone-app.pngYou can view a live example at Emma.tel, a demonstration to show what your .tel web page might look like.

A little before writing this article I registered MarkFulton.tel at Moniker for $14.99 a year.  The .tel revolution may take off quick because of the viral nature of information sharing.

Social networking is at the forefront of the tech industry right now and has exploded over the last year, this deal marketing .tel on MySpace could be all that’s needed for success.

Telnic seems to be putting in the effort towards promoting the extension as an ideal that is inventive, unique… that is, connecting and communicating with people effectively through short calling card websites.

Do You Think .tel is Going to Succeed?

Do you love the new .tel domain or are you having flashbacks of the launch of .mobi? Already investing in .tel domains?

Please share your comments below.

Mini Site Development Services: Creating Small Websites Based on Big Ideas

Mini site development has the potential to increase revenue and pay-per-click (PPC) conversions on domain names with traffic, especially those with natural type-in visitors.

Mini sites also allow you freedoms and features that current parking companies simply can’t and won’t provide you. If you have a domain with strong keywords there is also the possibility of ranking high in Google and increasing traffic significantly in due time.

Ron Jackson at DNJournal has recently published the DNJournal March Cover Story featuring an introduction to the rise of mini site development lately and list of other mini site development companies.

Each company is unique and has different features, models and methods to their developing madness.

Some are automated like WhyPark or Parking Revolution which places more interaction and content control with the user, others are on the pricey side but provide a hands on experience with true custom content, graphic and promotional work.

DN Media has announced today the launch of MiniSites.com. The new company provides mini site development services to domainers, which is as mentioned above, a hot trend in recent years for those seeking an alternative to falling revenue from traditional PPC parking companies.

minisites.jpg

MiniSites.com has three different mini site development packages to choose from which include features and services such as the following…

  • Dedicated Project Manager
  • Unique Content Creation
  • Custom Text Logo Design
  • Attractive Graphic Header Design
  • Flexible Monetization Options
  • Targeted Keyword Research
  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Easily Add Your Own Content Post-Launch
  • Free Hosting for as Long as You Own the Domain

Looks like a great all around package for having someone develop a quick mini site for your domain name.  The base price is set at $120, but they do have discounts for bulk orders.

Surprisingly, the service price nearly triples from $120 to $350 when you want to add on advanced link building and advanced monetization packages.

No details are to be found on the company site regarding hosting or a user control panel. But, I think they are on the right track and I am sure more information will show up soon on MiniSites.com as they push through the new launch.

Would love to hear your comments about mini site development or MiniSites.com, please leave one below!

Astounded.com on Bido Live Auction Today at 1PM EDT – Read expert commentary and history of this 10 year old domain.

bido.gifI am selling one of my premier domain names, ASTOUNDED.com to raise funds for my web ventures, mainly DotSauce.

There will be a live auction at Bido.com starting at 1PM today for the purchase of Astounded.com, biding starts at $1 and there is no reserve price!

More About Astounded.com Live Domain Auction

Expert commentary for the domain name has been overwhelmingly positive! Here are a few quotes from the comments on Bido for Astounded.com

“You can’t go wrong with this name. It’s an old name that was a built out site for 8+ years. It is not only a dictionary dotcom the root word astound has power. Kind of a shock and awe word. Strong one word names make the best domains. It is very brandable.”

“I could see this name worth close to 13k when the economy turns around… this domain is a solid investment.”

Richard Keicher of NameOrder.com

“I would be ‘astounded’ if this went for under 1K. The history and flexibility of this domain give it great value.”

Shane Cultra

“Astounded? You should be, here is a fantastic opportunity to get your hands on a very strong domain for any portfolio…. I expect this beauty to go for $5,000+ and wouldn’t want to see any less.”

Gary Taylor of 3ac Domains

Bido is a great new domain marketplace that features 1 domain auction everyday at 1pm.  There is even a bidder chat room.  Simply sign up for a free account and verify a credit card to be able to participate in the live auction!

A Little History About Astounded.com

In 1998, I started a web hosting and design company while fresh into high school. My company, Astounded.com was born out of a passion for creating websites and online business.

I resold some amazing hosting and contracted out to a number web design savvy friends and freelancers for development and design work. I even signed up for this cool online banking service called X.com, now PayPal, and started selling websites and domain names. Back when the old Afternic domain aftermarket chat room was the place to be and domain registrations still cost you $70 a year.

Here is a newspaper clipping of when I was inducted into the Jacksonville, NC Chamber of Commerce as their youngest ever member.

inthenews.jpg

Over the years I gained clients of all types from the local country club, chamber of commerce, musicians, organizations and at one point had 75 web hosting clients. Business was booming, but I was looking for something more that didn’t require so much tech support and allowed me to be more creative.

mark_expo.jpg

I later sold the hosting clients (not the company or the Astounded.com domain) and pursued a new path in writing, marketing, developing online businesses and of course domaining has been the foundation of my success online.

I will spare you my college years for now where more online businesses arose and fell and save those stories for another article. ;)

So, with my experience and passion for domaining I have developed this website, DotSauce.com to be a top community of domain owners and my hope is to provide some of the best content, tools and resources available for the domain industry.

Alot of the money from the sale of Astounded.com will go into improving the DotSauce domainer community!

Bido Charity Domain Auction on April 1st to Support Arizona Animal Rescue Center

The domain industry is banding together to support an Arizona animal rescue and sanctuary center that has been hit hard lately and needs money to pay for animal feed.

bido.gifSahar Sarid and Jarred Cohen of Bido.com are organizing a live domain portfolio auction of several donated animal related domains. The live auction will happen on the Bido website on April 1st 2009 at 1PM EDT!

Donna Mahony, a wonderful lady I had the pleasure of meeting at DomainFest, discovered the animal shelter in need of our support.

All of the auction proceeds will go towards feed for the animals (burros, horses and others) at a non profit lifetime animal sanctuary in Arizona, Hacienda de los Milagros.

Visit the Official Bido Charity Auction page for continual updates or to bid.

hacienda-banner.png

It takes $500 a day to feed the animals there, and that doesn’t take into account vet bills. The local vet has already donated many thousands of dollars in care as the shelter just can’t pay.

Thank you to Donna and Bido.com for putting on the charity event!  Unfortunately, I don’t have any animal domains to speak of but I hope this post will help out.

My prayers are with the animal sanctuary to protect the animals and to bless those that give!
